Steve Lapin studied ceramics at California College of Arts & Crafts (CCAC), CSUN and at UCLA, eventually opening Pelican Pottery in Santa Monica, CA with his good friend, artist James Davis Caswell, where together they built and rented studio spaces for potters, taught classes and made functional ceramics and art. Steve Lapin's ceramics are steeped in the traditional designs and decorative iconography of early Chinese, Persian and Japanese ceramics, processed through his own techniques and style. All pieces are individually thrown and hand decorated, all glazes are his own original formulations that are fired to 2360* F on white stoneware clay. Plates are supplied with an integrated wire hanger for wall mounting, while also allowing them to be used as functional tableware. All plate designs are available in 9", 11" and 14" diameter, and complete dinnerware sets are available on special order. Commissions are accepted for any ceramic item.
